What to Do Before You Reach Us
Follow these immediate steps to manage your dental emergency before your appointment:
Toothache
Rinse with warm salt water and take appropriate pain relief (paracetamol or ibuprofen, as directed on the packaging). Avoid placing painkillers directly on the tooth or gum.
Knocked-out adult tooth
Handle it by the crown (white part), not the root. If possible, gently re-seat it in the socket and hold it in place. If not, keep it moist in milk or saliva and come to us immediately.
Broken tooth
Save any pieces. Rinse your mouth gently. Cover any sharp edges with dental wax if available. Call us straight away.
Abscess or swelling
Do not delay an abscess is an infection that requires professional treatment. If you develop difficulty swallowing or breathing, or if swelling spreads rapidly, go directly to A&E.
Lost filling or crown
Temporary filling material from a pharmacy can protect the tooth until your appointment. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth.
We Welcome New Patients in Emergencies
You do not need to be a registered patient at Brandon Dental Clinic to access our emergency dental service. We welcome new patients who find themselves in need of urgent care. Simply call our practice, explain your situation, and our team will arrange an appointment as quickly as possible.
If you have experienced dental anxiety in the past or are worried about what treatment might involve, please let us know when you call. We have options to help you feel more comfortable, including sedation which you can find out more about on our sedation dentistry page for Suffolk patients
